EBM Focus - Volume 9, Issue 1 Read the Complete EBM Focus and Earn CME Cases of mild-to-moderate croup are often treated with corticosteroids, mostly based on results from randomized trials in emergency department settings. A recent Cochrane review demonstrated that corticosteroid treatment (dexamethasone in most trials) improves croup symptoms and reduces return visits or readmissions (Cochrane Database Syst Rev. 2011 Jan 19;(1): CD001955), and a high-quality randomized trial has shown that a single course of dexamethasone reduces symptom severity in children with mild croup (N Engl J Med. However, surveys have shown that the type of steroid used can vary across practices. A 3-day course of prednisolone is commonly prescribed by primary care pediatricians, but the clinical evidence supporting its use is limited, especially in settings outside the emergency department. Now, a community-based randomized trial has compared a 3-day course of prednisolone to a single course of dexamethasone in children with mild-to-moderate croup. A total of 87 children aged 1-8 years were randomized to prednisolone 2 mg/kg/day orally for 3 days vs. a single dose of dexamethasone 0.6 mg/kg orally plus 2 doses of placebo on successive days. So yes I was prescribed for these pill because of my dry cough he said I have bronchitis, a day later I walk down to my friends for swimming and I show her mum Caroline the pills she immediately says there for asthma she said she takes them when her inhaler does not work does anyone thing I have asthma because no one in my family has it!! A lot of us here take the same medications for different ailments. Off label use is quite common with some medications that have benefits beyond what they were intended for. My stepfather took prednisone for 20 years and I can promise, out of his ailments, asthma was never one of them. I though it bronchitis but COULD BE a cough variant asthma especially if high pollen count.:-). That woman Caroline, should have known better than to fill your head with doubts. Steve Hi Ana, Stephen, for once I have to disagree with you. 10 years later same thing but pulmonary doc said no to codeine. She gave me antibiotics (no cough or white count), medrol pack and steroid inhaler in addition to albuterol. I was trying to work in hospital and nurses wanted me to go to ER. I'm NOT saying you have asthma but her rational was correct. When I was 32 I developed a tickle on my right tonsil, where you have to keep swallowing. I was pregnant at the time and I was so forcefully coughing that they were afraid for the baby. I couldn't take antibiotics (but no fever anyway) nor prednisone. I couldn't talk and trembling so hard I couldn't get my albuterol out of my briefcase! If your pollen counts are high, it may have caused the bronchitis from coughing. Ok I will end here because I'm a blabber-mouth. I gained 45 lbs and a moon face from those dang tiny pills! Last year, my now ex-primary, saw me for same thing 2 days before going across country on the train. It was annoying but no other symptoms until the dreaded dry cough started. It was a teaching hospital and they told me 3 interns spent the day in the library! My next door neighbor (a friend and Doctor ) could hear me next door with windows closed. He may have heard something while listening to your chest.

Prednisolone is used to treat a wide range of health problems including allergies, blood disorders, skin diseases, infections, certain cancers and to prevent organ rejection after a transplant. It also damps down your immune system, which can help in autoimmune illnesses like rheumatoid arthritis, where your immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues. Prednisolone is available only on prescription as tablets and as a liquid to drink. It can also be given by injection but this is usually only done in hospital. It's important to take prednisolone as your doctor has advised. The usual dose varies between 5mg and 60mg daily - 1ml of liquid prednisolone is usually equal to 10mg.

There are many summer birthdays in my family, and the the one that we celebrated most recently was my father’s–though the actual holiday is July 15th. I put him on hold this year because I was tired of sending him gifts via Amazon, and instead wanted to treat him to an outing rather than yet another object to stick in a drawer or on a shelf. The trip I had in mind was actually one that we’d taken before–back in the summer of 2007 when I was but a lowly Ph D student taking a break from my field season: I’m not sure how or why, but my parents went through a period during which they frequently visited Ohio’s Burr Oak State Park and rented pontoon boats so they could explore the reservoir. After their initial foray, they returned with my dad’s parents, my mom’s parents, and, finally, me, each time packing a picnic lunch to eat while out on the water. They discovered an inlet, which they dubbed Kight Cove, where it was particularly pleasant to drop anchor and float while dining. Despite the fact that they very much enjoyed their visits to Burr Oak–so much so that they even investigated how much it would cost to purchase their own pontoon boat–they got distracted by other outings and stopped going. Amazingly, the marina looked pretty much exactly as it did the last time I was there, despite the fact that seven years had elapsed. Because we visited on a weekday, it was nearly deserted, which only added to the peace and calm of the environment–a calm that we momentarily disturbed when we practically crashed the boat while pulling out of our parking space. It is very cyclical, starting w/intense uncontrollable itching, then clear fluid leaking from skin, followed by crusting over & flaking of skin in ears that is itchy in & of itself, leading to more scratching & picking at ears. The skin in my ears gets very damaged and ratty during outbreaks. I also have swelling of the ear canal after these itch/scratch episodes that are sometimes quite painful, & Motrin helps that. I don't have allergies of any kind and I'm in excellent health and I can learn to live with the smell of fresh baked bread in my nostrils.. still I think I should get someone to check this out especially as I read about Phantom smells being a possible side efect of brain tumors... OH Chas PLEASE DON'T use any human medications on kitty unless prescribed by a Vet in the correct dosage.could be fatal for him! Could herbal supplements like garlic, goldenseal, cats claw help cure it? Will we be safe having sex with a condom until we are retested? He seriously needs to see a Vet and be prescribed something for this abcess and soon, it is badly infected if you see pus....anything topical that you may try would just be licked off, he needs a systemic antibiotic. (We are abstaining for sex for two weeks after treatment) Thank you so much! I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. Should I be worried that the bacteria is resistant in my body? It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. These 2 areas are for chronic urticaria and swelling in the arteries. Buy Zithromax Online - 100% Secure and Anonymous Zithromax Azithromycin Side Effects, Interactions, Warning.
