Hi there Does anyone have any idea if it is ok to take clomid while still breastfeeding?? We conceived our DD who is now 1 on our 3rd round of Clomid (as well as met) after 17 months of trying and have been TTC again for over 9 months. I have PCOS and have only had 1 AF back in January. I have an appt with my fertility specialist at the end of this month..to wait 3 months for this appt... and I'm just worried he'll tell me to stop breastfeeding before he'll help us. I haven't quite been in this situation, but something similar. I love breastfeeding and want to keep at it or as long as I can. I concieved our DS with IVF and wanted to do a unmedicated Frozen Embryo Transfer with our remaining embryo when our DS was 12 months old. I spoke to my FS about not wanting to give up BFing and so we did blood tracking for a month after I got AF to see if I was O'ing, and I wasn't. I had had 2 AFs before we started tracking, and my Dr basically told me that if I wanted to try again, I'd have to stop BFIng. I conceived my first with clomid and am breastfeeding. we want #2 fairly soon, I'm thinking we will start trying in the next few months. If we decide we want a third we will want to start trying before this one is a year. However, I suffer amenorrhea since stopping the pill do my situation may be different! I've seen that its ok to use, and also that it's not. He stated possible early puberty if i remember correctly .... DS2 is now 6 months but I'm still EBF so I wouldn't expect AF yet anyway! I'm just wondering if anyone here took clomid while breastfeeding and if it had any effect on milk production. @Marronn5 I also never started having a period after I got off the pill. Definitely will be asking some more questions of my OB and friend who's a pharmacist when the time comes. Just pick a day and start as no ovulation and no periods for me ever either! Not even sure how accurate it is but i remember being told to return when baby was completely weaned and thats what i did ... Doc reckons it'll be HRT for the rest of my life - and I'm still in my 20s :(Ksweitz - did u get tests done to find out the cause of amennorhea or did your doc just put u on Clomid? ) but my husband and I were just wondering this last night! I weaned DS1 at 6 months to go back on Clomid because I thought I had to. I'd be pretty annoyed if I could have taken Clomid and not had to wean my first to become pregnant again. Ksweitz - finally someone else with the same issues! Conceived twins when my daughter was a little over 2Marronn, yes. Unless we suddenly decide we don't want a third, or this pregnancy somehow 'fixes' me. I'd love to know the cause and if there is a real cure but not sure I want to go through all the tests etc :(I am in the same situation. My OB actually thought maybe my first pregnancy would, but no such luck. 50mg doses did not result in ovulation, so we bumped up to 100mg/dose and a trigger shot on cycle day 13, and voila! My DS is only 3 wks old and I plan to breast feed for a full year, I hadn't even thought about not being able to go on Provera and Clomid and breast feeding when we try for #2 :/ It sounds like there is alot of mixed information out there. I think the amenorrhea problem is exacerbated by bfing as even ppl with a regular 28 day cycle can have no periods for the whole duration of bfing. Have cysts on your ovaries that are not caused by polycystic ovarian syndrome PCOS Hi ladies, I have one daughter five months old and I EBF. OB suggested that if we want a sibling for DD that we should try to get pregnant sooner rather than later... so we will likely be starting TTC in the next few months. Last time we did clomid plus IUI and did HCG shots in the second half of my cycle. I had hoped to BF daughter for the first year so I am wondering is it safe to take clomid while nursing? Can I pump and dump during the days that I take the clomid but still continue to BF otherwise? I have built up a decent supply of milk but will go through it quickly if I have to wean DD and stop nursing altogether. I am interested in hearing if anyone has taken Clomid while breastfeeding and if they experienced any changes in their milk supply. I'm not really interested in opinions on whether this should or should not be done. We're just considering clomid to raise my chances each month as I'm "advanced maternal age". Thank you :)I asked my doctor, as we conceived my son with Clomid and just had a mc without Clomid. Kellymom (one of my trusted bf-ing resources) is fine with it too. When I called my doctor to see if there was anything I could do to conceive #2 she just said cut way back on feelings in hopes if getting AF back and/or quit nursing;( I am struggling with the first because if engorgement and bit ready to wean my 6 month old!!! I've heard it can decrease the supply of some so I was curious if anyone had any personal experience using it with bf-ing. I am worried that I will have another mc if we conceive again without Clomid. I think the one risk you take is that it can affect your supply but doesn't for everyone. I have no experience for you but I put my trust in a site called lact Med, there are no studies on its affects on a BFing infant. As an EBFer, I can say if you're not ready to wean you may have you're answer. She said that it was not safe to take while breastfeeding and that they would not prescribe anything to help me to O or bring on AF while I was still breastfeeding. I'm by no means saying you should or should not take it, but at 6 months you're likely starting solids if you haven't already and your LO will likely cut back nursing all in their own. GLShe is sttn but she still loves to nurse during the day. I actually think it would be very hard on her if I lost my supply... But I'll be there in 1.5 years myself and we want 2 more..pressure right? I agree that I'm not ready to wean but I am ready for #2!! then again, pregnancy will likely have more of an effect on my supply than clomid. It's such a tough decision as I would like at least 2 more and am not getting any younger!!
