    Diflucan for children

Generic Name: fluconazole Product Name: Diflucan Diflucan capsules (for adults) and oral suspension (for children) are used to treat certain fungal and yeast infections. Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why Diflucan has been prescribed for you. Your doctor may have prescribed Diflucan for another reason. Diflucan is available only with a doctor’s prescription. Diflucan belongs to a group of medicines called azole antibiotics. It works by preventing the growth of the fungal and yeast organisms causing your infection. Diflucan contains the active ingredient fluconazole: Capsules (50 mg, 100 mg and 200 mg capsules) contain the inactive ingredient gelatin, lactose, maize starch, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, sodium lauryl sulfate, titanium dioxide, (50 and 100 mg capsules only), patent blue V. The 100 mg and 200 mg capsules also contain erythrosine; the 200 mg capsules also contain indigo carmine. Fluconazole is used to treat infections caused by fungus, which can invade any part of the body including the mouth, throat, esophagus, lungs, bladder, genital area, and the blood. Fluconazole is also used to prevent fungal infection in people who have a weak immune system caused by cancer treatment, bone marrow transplant, or diseases such as AIDS. Fluconazole may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Your dose will depend on the infection you are treating. Vaginal infections are often treated with only one pill. Use this medicine for the full prescribed length of time, even if your symptoms quickly improve. For other infections, your first dose may be a double dose. Skipping doses can increase your risk of infection that is resistant to medication. Fluconazole will not treat a viral infection such as the flu or a common cold.

Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking fluconazole and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. If you are taking the liquid suspension form of this medication, shake the bottle well before each dose. Carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Generally in children, the dose should not exceed 600 milligrams daily unless directed by the doctor. SINCE ORAL ABSORPTION IS RAPID AND ALMOST COMPLETE, THE DAILY DOSE OF DIFLUCAN (FLUCONAZOLE) IS THE SAME FOR ORAL (TABLETS AND SUSPENSION) AND INTRAVENOUS ADMINISTRATION. In general, a loading dose of twice the daily dose is recommended on the first day of therapy to result in plasma concentrations close to steady-state by the second day of therapy. The daily dose of DIFLUCAN for the treatment of infections other than vaginal candidiasis should be based on the infecting organism and the patient's response to therapy. Treatment should be continued until clinical parameters or laboratory tests indicate that active fungal infection has subsided. An inadequate period of treatment may lead to recurrence of active infection. Patients with AIDS and cryptococcal meningitis or recurrent oropharyngeal candidiasis usually require maintenance therapy to prevent relapse. The recommended dosage of DIFLUCAN for oropharyngeal candidiasis is 200 mg on the first day, followed by 100 mg once daily.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are a class of drugs that are typically used as antidepressants in the treatment of major depressive disorder and anxiety disorders. SSRIs are believed to increase the extracellular level of the neurotransmitter serotonin by limiting its reabsorption (reuptake) into the presynaptic cell, increasing the level of serotonin in the synaptic cleft available to bind to the postsynaptic receptor. They have varying degrees of selectivity for the other monoamine transporters, with pure SSRIs having only weak affinity for the norepinephrine and dopamine transporters. SSRIs are the most widely prescribed antidepressants in many countries. The main indication for SSRIs is major depressive disorder (also called "major depression", "clinical depression" and often simply "depression"). SSRIs are frequently prescribed for anxiety disorders, such as social anxiety disorder, panic disorders, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, chronic pain and occasionally, for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They are also frequently used to treat depersonalization disorder, although generally with poor results. Antidepressants are recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a first-line treatment of severe depression and for the treatment of mild-to-moderate depression that persists after conservative measures such as cognitive therapy. View Full Profile Tricyclics, which include amitriptyline, or Elavil; imipramine, or Tofranil; and nortriptyline, among others, have been used to treat depression for many years. Vertigo is not a common or even infrequent side effect of most of these antidepressants. Clomipramine and amitriptyline are tricyclic antidepressants that may cause tinnitus and dizziness, and desipramine may cause dizziness when someone stands up abruptly, but none of these medications cause vertigo. The newer depression drugs, called atypical antidepressants, work differently than SSRIs and tricyclics. A possible explanation for dizziness following SSRI discontinuation.
