I’ve not exactly been a serial dieter, and have avoided the more obvious options. I hated the idea of Weight Watchers or Slimming World or any other organisation that majored in meetings. I don’t do group activities, and I wasn’t about to start doing them just because I needed to lose weight. When my mother realised I was not going to grow any taller but was continuing to grow wider she gave in and hauled me to the doctor’s. The doctor did what any doctor in the 1960s or 70s would have done and put me on pills, presumably some sort of amphetamines, and I did lose weight on them. I also started to swim train around the same time, but the weight crept back on after I stopped the tablets, not helped by my Father being the sort of man who could (and still can) eat anything and not put weight on. Him feeding me sugar sandwiches or chocolate sandwiches as a youngster really didn’t help much. I was on the prescription form for about 6 months and though I may have lost weight and not as much as you would think, it did teach me what not to eat. It was easier to control the fattier foods that caused the side effects to be nasty, but I am glad now that I am off the pills and don't need them anymore. I agree that you should really sit down and weigh the pros and cons. Even with insurance the prescription was very expensive. Thanks everyone, I currently have PCOS and have struggled with weight loss, I am currently eating a lower fat diet most days and the doctors want me to go on this to see if it helps cut some of the fat from my diet to increase weight loss along with my diet. I have decided to give it a shot but going to continue to eat the foods I have been other than those "slip up days" where I eat bad greasy food, with this medication I will not be able to as I know the side effects will leave me miserable! I will post later after a few weeks how it is going, thanks everyone! If sparkpeople has shown me anything, it's the hundreds of people who have committed to eating right and exercising regularly WORKS long term better than anythings else. "I started taking Xenical (Orlistat) almost a week ago. I gained about 30 pounds after 3 and a half years of using Mirena IUD thats why I started taking Orlistat because nothing was working, it seemed as if my metabolism had been shut. I eat about 1200 calories everyday, I workout 3 days a week and I get around 6000 or more steps a day. So for the first 3 days I had no oily side effects but on the fourth day thats when it really kicked in for me. So far I haven't really lost any weight if anything I've gained about 2 pounds but I'm not sure if that's because I've been working out and my body's retaining more water, I also have my monthly visitor so not quiet sure yet. But I will keep you all updated after 2 weeks.""Ive been with slimming world (SW) for over a year, I lost nearly 15kg (33lb) and still have 15kg to go. Hi, I am at least 45 pounds overweight, and I have to do something about it. However, I don’t want any magic pills from commercials, I want a real medicine like xenical. Before that, I was trying hundreds of diets and pills, but I had no success. Is there any xenical success story to encourage me? You know those before-after pictures in the magazines? Xenical is that good because it stops some fat from the food to be absorbed in the body. It’s good to take multivitamin that contains vitamins D, E, K, and beta-carotene once a day, 2 hours before xenical. Now that I’m slim again, I will never go back on the weight that I had. Xenical made me really happy, and I recommend it to everyone. I got greedy though and ordered Sibutramine (Brand name 'reductil') And the side effects were diabloicle so i stopped taking them... However, some people experience side effects, and the best thing is to ask your doctor is it safe for you to use it. My doctor explained to me thoroughly what I expect and as long as I stayed on the low fat diet(especially avoiding fried foods) I had no problems. Xenical is just the ' Brand' name :-) Good luck everyone.. Since that I have put weight back on so I have ordered the Xenicals again and they should be here real soon... Another good thing is to incorporate a light cardio routine in to your program even if it's just 15 minutes of dancing around in your living room, just get active and make sure you take a multi vitamin as well - for example I take mine with breakfast and take Xenical with lunch and dinner. It worked for me, i dropped 2 dress sizes in 7 weeks.. The final thing I'd say plays a major role is your water intake, drink plenty of water - not just cuz of the program but it does wonders for you skin!
