Hi, I am taking 500mg of Cipro twice daily and Flagyl 500mg about 3 times a day..though usually since i have to eat with it and sometimes i am sleeping or napping..i take it only twice.its making things worse..supposed to help with inflammation.its probally creating inflammation.my poor intestines need is a rest.this happen with you too and what do you do? I haven't taken my dose today..i am dreading the D and the sick to my stomach feeling... It is likely due to the protective bacteria being killed off and only the drug-resistant nasties being left. For more on the causes and treatment, see: This is very normal. They are not causing inflammation -- both of these antibiotics have long histories of anti-infammatory properties. The huge majority of people return to normal soon after stop taking them. Unfortunately, you do not have an easy choice to make. YOu can choose to stay on antibiotics because you have a very serious infection, and they really do kill the types if bacterial and fungal infections you have (propably several are at work because of the rectal involvement). Or choose to stop the antibioitcs and keep your infection. Maybe you can tolerate starches like well-cooked white rice and pastas? Alcohol consumption while on metronidazole can result in side effects such as facial flushing, sweating, nausea, vomiting, palpitations, low blood pressure and headache (disulfiram-like reaction). Reports suggest that some patients experience giddiness and excitement and may abuse this combination. Flagyl is prescribed for Infection and is mostly mentioned together with this indication. Always consult your doctor before taking these medications together. In addition, our data suggest that some patients take it for Lyme and Crohn's Disease, although this is not an approved use*. Do not stop taking the medications without a physician's advice. Doctors give trusted answers on uses, effects, side-effects, and cautions Dr. Handsfield on metronidazole and ciprofloxacin together You can, but you should have a good reason, and they should be prescribed by a health care provider. Ciprofloxacin has a reduced activity against anaerobic pathogens. Therefore, a combination of ciprofloxacin with an antimicrobial agent active against anaerobes, such as metronidazole, seems to be interesting for the treatment of mixed aerobic/anaerobic infections. Without the use of Cipro or Flagyl, I most likely would have died. I have been on Cipro since about 1993-1994 and still use it on occasions where I end up with a UTI, or kidney infection.

Although there has been no specific study to oppose their combined use, there is no practical reason and need for taking these 2 sets of both together. Read more I cannot think of any condition that would require taking Cipro (ciprofloxacin) and Flagyl indefinately except for a polymicrobial infection of a foreign body that was impossible to remove. Sometimes we are on a medication routinely (ie- Doxycycline for acne) and a different antibiotic becomes necessary for another reason. So, take one only based on clinical judgment with or without urine culture for specific selection with a timely follow-up. Your doctor wouldn't have prescribed both of them without good reason. If you need more information about the reasons, contact the doctor's office. In some cases, the routine antibiotic is suspended until the other one is completed. In short, please clarify with your prescribing physician. Read more See 1 more doctor answer Yes but why do you need to take these 2 drugs? I see no problem though unless you are allergic to sulfa containing drugs, or metronidazole ... My husband has been diagnosed with diverticulitis and is being treated with Flagyl and Cipro. He now has a fever and terrible stomach pain and a hives like rash on his face and a slight fever. He has had three doses and I am wondering what to do. And if you don't feel better, call your surgeon and describe what's going on. People think just because they have been released, they are supposed to be 100%. Sometimes extra followup or checking in is required, and they do expect you to call for problems. Without the use of Cipro or Flagyl, I most likely would have died.

In the chapter Treating Lupus With Medications, I talked about prednisone as being the single most important factor in improving the outlook for lupus patients. It is a very powerful tool in the treatment of lupus, it is usually effective in bringing lupus under control and it saves lives. However, there is a price to be paid for this success. If we observe what happens to patients taking high doses of prednisone, there is no doubt this drug can cause a wide variety of side-effects. In this section, I will be talking about Short term side-effects It is important to be aware that not every lupus patient will develop these side-effects, that each patient reacts differently to the drug, that only a high dose of prednisone will cause major side-effects and that a high dose has to be continued for several weeks before these side-effects will occur. Most importantly, these side-effects are reversible; they will go away when the dose is decreased or when the drug is stopped. Always remember that the beneficial (good) effect of prednisone cannot be separated from the onset of at least some of these side-effects.
