    Metformin chest pain

I have been on Metformin for about 2 weeks now with no indication of any side effects whatsoever. Last night and all day today I have had a mild headache and what feels like heartburn, indigestion or chest pain, kinda like there is a big lump in my chest and throat. Could this be a side effect of the Metformin and would it suddenly show up after 2 weeks or so? I haven't really eaten anything unusual or different and my exercise routine is the same as it has been for a year. My meds are the only real change I can think of right now. I am alittle tired but its almost that time of the month so the tiredness and headache aren't unusual right now, just the heartburn/chest pain issues. I noticed if I can burp (women can't do it on demand like alot of guys I know) it feels slightly better so I am pretty sure it is heartburn or indigestion and not chest pains. I have very high levels of blood sugar, but am not diabetic (yet). I am an overweight, 38-year-old female, but I at least try to keep in relatively good cardiovascular shape by kickboxing 2-3 times a week and other exercise. My problem is the medications I am prescribed to help with this problem. Metformin (brand names Fortamet, Glucophage, Glumteza, Glucophage XR, Riomet) is an oral medication used alone or with other medications to treat type 2 diabetes. It was FDA approved in 1994 and is also available as the combination drug rosiglitazone/metformin (Avandamet). People with type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes, kidney disease, or kidney failure should not use it. Children under the age of 17 should not use the extended-release preparation of metformin. Metformin is typically taken twice a day, preferably with food. If a dose is missed, the missed pill should be taken as soon as possible, unless it is almost time for the next dose. “Doubling up” on medication in order to make up a missed dose should not be done. If metformin is inadequate for blood sugar control, patients taking metformin can also experience high blood sugar, with symptoms of confusion, seizures, dry mouth, vomiting, sweet-smelling breath, or loss of consciousness.
